Sections

Add sections in the theme editor with Add section. Most sections are built out of blocks, so the content inside them is yours to arrange.

Building the home page

The home page Craftly installs with is a starting point, not a rule: a slideshow, then collections, new products, a story, three promises, testimonials, a gallery and a signup. Delete what you do not need and drag the rest into the order that suits your shop.

If most of your visitors do not yet know what they want, move the Product finder up near the top. If they arrive knowing, lead with products.

The product finder

The finder does not search. It builds a link to a filtered collection, which means results come from Shopify's own filtering, the result page can be bookmarked and shared, and nothing has to be kept in sync.

Set it up in three steps:

  1. In the free Search & Discovery app, add the filters you want to offer.
  2. Add a Product finder section and choose which collection results open in.
  3. Add a Finder question block for each question. Choose what it filters by, then list the options.

A question can filter by product type, vendor, tag, variant option or metafield. For a variant option, put the option's name — Size, Colour — in the Option name field; for a metafield, put namespace.key in Metafield key.

Each option is one line, written as Label | filter value:

Never tried | beginner
A few things | intermediate
Plenty | advanced

The left side is what the shopper reads. The right side has to match what Shopify's filter expects — the product type, vendor, tag, variant option value or metafield value exactly as it is on your products. If a question returns nothing, that is almost always a filter value that does not match.

Keep it to two or three questions. Every extra one loses people.

Video

If you choose a YouTube or Vimeo link, Craftly shows your cover image and only loads the player when a shopper presses play. A video player is one of the heaviest things a page can load, and most shoppers never press play.

Testimonials

The rating stars in a testimonial block are a number you type. They are for quotes you have permission to publish, not for review data.

Real review data belongs to a review app. Craftly reads Shopify's standard rating metafield, so any review app that writes to it will show ratings on product cards and product pages with no setup from you.
